MySpace being, well, silly
Hey, everyone. We’ve started to see a few cases where people try to post MyxerTags on their MySpace profile, or in bulletins, and the links get garbled by MySpace such that they end up dropping people that click on them on the MySpace home page. Not very helpful when you’re trying to get ringtones!
I’m not sure whether they’re having “technical difficulties” over there, or if this is some kind of crazy scheme to extort money from us (ha ha! have you seen how much we’re (not) charging around here?), but I thought I’d make a note of it and ask anyone to let us know if you’re having problems integrating MyxerTones with MySpace.
Boy, I hope they’re not doing this on purpose, because there are plenty of other online social networks that I’m sure our million+ users would love to have MyxerTones endorse…

well, I know that myspace had to make all the links that people put on their profile in to myspace links (don’t really know what those are) but every link I put up that isn’t taking you to some myspace site, doesn’t work because of it.. they say it’s to prevent phishers
Yea the links goto some redirect site msplinks or somethin like that, i wish they would fix it i need to spread my ringtones out!

I just signed up to myxertones and I was counting on myspace to advertise my ringtones. This is a let down.
Well…I don’t know too many people that actually click those “free ringtones…NO SERIOUSLY, THIS ONE WORKS!!!” links, anyway.

it redirects to msplinks.com, then to the website you wanted to go to. if it is a known website to sell spam or something, then myspace will put it on their blocked list. so, someone needs to contact customer support.
Here’s a letter I’ve sent to MySpace. We’ll see what kind of a response I get.
Hello. Our website, MyxerTones, has for a long time added value to the MySpace community by providing a simple way for MySpace bands to offer mobile content through their profile pages. Of the tens of thousands of bands using MyxerTones, I would guess that at least 3/4 of them also use MySpace as a promotional tool, and as a way to connect with their fans.
Lately, we’ve found that links people place on their MySpace profiles or bulletins that should go to http://www.myxertones.com are instead landing on the MySpace home page. The links appear to have been rewritten on your end to go through msplinks.com.
Regardless of the cause or reason for this new behavior, many of our million+ end users are starting to notice and get upset. An undercurrent of anti-MySpace grumbling is starting to be felt throughout our site.
I would therefore like to work with you toward “fixing” our links on MySpace so that we can continue to serve a common user base, rather than shifting our efforts toward working more closely with other online networks that may provide a more open environment.
I know that you have no intention but to best serve your user community, and so I am sure you will work diligently to correct this problem that affects so many of our common users. I thank you in advance for your prompt reply and attention to this matter.

i just put my ringtone links on my myspace page (www.myspace.com/RealRenaissance) today and everything is working A-OK! my links are going directly to the corresponding tone’s page and not through msplinks. so it’s looking good so far. if there’s suddenly any change i’ll keep u posted.
Renaissance – thanks for the update, we appreciate it. It’s funny, it seems to be really inconsistent as to whether the links are redirected or not. The good news is that it appears to be a mixup on their end, and not anything malicious. I think.
I heard this site just says that the ringtones are free but they actually charge you…is that true?
Hey, James. It’s sad that there are so many shady companies out there that claim to have free ringtones, but really try to charge you in confusing ways. I’m happy to say that when we mean something is free, we honestly mean it.

Hey…I just found out about the links not working from your MySpace page. I tried to post MyxerTone links yesterday and today. They worked for 5 mins and then started landing me on the MySpace home page….but when I made a blog entry and posted the links they worked just fine and still are. Not sure if its because the links are in the blog and coming from a different server or what but if you go to my MySpace page, go to my Blog and click they should still be working. I tried making a bulletin with them but that didn’t work either…so I posted one telling people to check my blog. Hopefully MySpace won’t disable those.

The way MySpace handles HTML code is really funky. I have found that the code handling behavior varies in postings from blogs, for example. I have had the best luck with blogs and I have posted a free ringtone link from Myxer on the MySpace site. So sometimes when I publish postings I will include a link to the blog, where I then have better control of the HTML code. This also increases your MySpace hits, so it isn’t a bad strategy.
WHAT IS GOING ON! They cut off Mxyer on Myspace site but on my cuz site it is still on and poppin.

Myxer worked since Feb 07 on our MySpace profile; now it redirects to the MySpace homepage.
I feel like crying.
I have the brand new chocolate that came out july 9th. The ringtones are not working with this phone but they worked with the old chocolate.
i have to agree that myspace is a little messed up .. they make the most rediculous things happen for no reason .. idk .. i think myspace is trying to get wayyyy over technical causeing more and more things to go wrong .. before they add anything new they should fix what they already have so it doesnt malfunction any more .. as for the links not working .. i dont even click on them to be honest .. everyone is making them into viruses that steal your password and its just not worth the risk ..
Not sure about issues with posting in a myspace profile, but I have the ringtone links posted in my blog. No issues yet doing it that way.

I’ve found it works best on myspace if you write the link into a graphic and post it on myspace as a button. for instacnce:
DOWNLOAD “KILL THE VIBE” RINGTONE
In this case, we designed a banner JPG and uploaded it to photobucket.com.
Photobucket will write the code to post the banner on myspace. Then we simply replaced the info between the ” ” following the <a href= with the url to your Myxertones page.

I created an image file with all the text directions to download my ringtones to their phone and linked the image to my myxertones page if they want to listen to the ringtone before they buy it. We’ll see how well it does.

i think i know why the myxertones wont work sometimes on myspace, i think someone may have tried to send it to a mail type comment and the person they sent it to may have blocked it or flagged it as spam i do the same when someone sends me an ad in a mail that is not on my friends list so that may be your problem im not sure but im just leaving some input on the subject

Yet if myxer said to newscorp will give 75% of all our revenue if you let our users post, then badda bling. there would be no problem.
They (the newscorp monster) used the same Muscle Tactic
on revver.com but revver said no, so as example of this digital muscle, you cant even post the text

Yeah I’ve been having problems with this as well! I’m just trying to get my ringtones and wallpapers spread out there, but MySpace isn’t being very helpful about this.
For the meantime though, I’ve used one of my domains i don’t use a whole lot to redirect people to my MyxerTones artist profile…

YAH! This is really weird. It smells fishy.
I tried to post them on a bulletin.. it didn’t work.
Then I tried to just make a link, and it went straight to myspace home..
I really want to post the ringtones.. I hope that this can be remedied soon!!!

Renaissance – We actually support a good deal of countries and carriers in Europe. While we don’t have localized versions of the MyxerTones website for those areas, our core infrastructure handles delivery to many countries around the world with various SMS aggregators.
Sorry I don’t have an official list of supported countries, carriers, and devices. If your fans in Europe enter their phone number in international format (like “+44xxxxx” it should Do The Right Thing.

So if the european users send the text codes to their phones, will that work as well or is the only option is to go the tone’s myxertone page and enter their phone #s that way?
Ren – European users will have to go to the website. We don’t have support for “mobile originated” messages in Europe yet. (That is, texting a MyxerCode to MYXER(69937) will not work).
BTW, your comment prompted an internal discussion about our less-than-crystal-clear stance on European support, and we’ve decided it’s time to add the top 5 European carriers to our regular test cycle. So hopefully the situation will be much more clear (and regularly tested in house) going forward.

Yeah, I just spent over an hour uploading a shit ton of rintones to add to my buddies band myspace music page. Im getting directed back to the myspace home page when clicking on the ringtone tag. GRRRRRRRRR……I hope they will allow it still. U guys rock and myspace is obviously looking MONEY to advertise there. That really blows!
I just want to let you guys know, that this is a kickin’ site. I have Verizon and Verizon makes you purchase their ringtones, but you guys found a way to go around that. I just bought the new Chocolate mint and I purchased the Music package along w/ the unlimited text, PIC, and flix messaging. I was under the impression that I could upload my MP3′s and use them as ringtones but you can’t. I can upload hundreds of my MP3′s but it won’t allow you to use them as ringtones.
I am a web developer and once I have my site finished and published I am going to have your banner on all my customer websites (Free advertising for you).

Well folks… Here is my Experience with Myxer and Myspace.
I have found that you can put it “ON” your page, if you modify the “tag” a little. It’s pretty easy… but if you are trying to post it in a bulletin, then it will kick you back to the Myspace Hom page.
Here’s how YOU can get around it…
Just copy and paste this (this is what I use, so go ahead and pick it up:-)
