One of the hottest gadget gifts this holiday is the Kindle Fire from Amazon.com.  It is an awesome combination of an e-Book reader and Android Tablet, in a sleek 7″ form factor (at an attractive $199 price).   I admit it, as a “gadget guy” and an avid e-book reader and consumer of all sorts of digital content I love my Kindle Fire… and now I love it even more because Myxer Social Radio is available for FREE in the Amazon Kindle Fire App Store.

The Kindle Fire features a sharp 7″ screen and stereo speakers (as well as the requisite 3.5mm headphone jack), making it an awesome device for listening to great music with your friends on Myxer Social Radio. Chatting with your friends while listening together is especially nice with the Kindle Fire’s much-larger-than-a-smartphone screen (and thus larger on-screen keyboard).

Not all Android apps are available for the Kindle Fire, as you can only access Amazon’s App store and not the full Android Market.  With that in mind, we are “fired up” that Myxer Social Radio is one of the few streaming music apps available now on the Kindle Fire.  If you have a Kindle Fire please check out Myxer Social Radio on it and let us know what you think!

On the web at www.myxer.fm the chat window is always visible, so it is easy to check out the vibe of the room and add your comments to the chat.

 

 

On your iOS or Android device, just tap the “chat bubble” icon on the NOW PLAYING screen when you are listening to open the chat window.   We’ll also notify you with an emoticon inside the chat bubble when there is new activity in the chat room. 

  

 Rock The Vote

Another good reason to use chat when you’re in a Myxer Social Radio listening room is to rally others to help you skip a song you don’t want to hear.  When you are in a Myxer Social Radio room with a group of other listeners, for a song to skip the majority of people in the room have to “vote it off the island” by giving it a “thumbs down” or tapping the “skip” (fast forward) button.  Chat can be a fun way to rally some support if you like the room but aren’t quite grooving to the current song.   Give it a try the next time you are listening.

To help ensure that everyone who uses Myxer Social Radio benefits from the experience of using the app or website with their actual friends we are leveraging Facebook.  In order to launch the Myxer Social Radio app you are required to login by linking with your Facebook account.  This way, as soon as you open Myxer Social Radio you can see your friends and what they are listening to right now.  As you will quickly see when you start using Myxer Social Radio yourself, this is fun!  There is something inherently pleasing about knowing you are not alone and that while you are listening to Bob Marley wail in your “Jamaican Me Crazy” room, some of your friends are “there” listening too.

After spotting a familiar Facebook friend on the FRIENDS screen, tap or click their profile picture to go to their profile page.

From your friend’s profile page you can select “INVITE TO LISTEN” if you want them to join you in the room you are listening in.  Select “LISTEN TOGETHER” if you want to join your friend in the room they are in.

If your friends are not yet using Myxer Social Radio you can select “INVITE FRIENDS” on the web or “INVITE FACEBOOK FRIENDS” on the FRIENDS tab in the Android or iPhone app to send an invite to any of your friend’s Facebook wall.  It’s as easy as that!

To create a room yourself, just go to the ROOMS tab in your browser (MY ROOMS on your mobile) and select CREATE NEW ROOM.

Add an artist (or up to five), name your room and you’re all set.

 

 

Now you can start listening and invite your friends to listen with you.  Once you are in a room you can even CHAT with everyone in the room.  Here’s a short video highlighting how to create a room:
